Latest single from Ayrshire singer / songwriter Nathan McDermott.
Released 9th February 2024 via Sun Turtle Records.
Ayrshire singer-songwriter Nathan McDermott (24) is set to release his new single titled, Concrete Countryside, on Friday 9th February 2024 via Sun Turtle Records. The single received an exclusive first play by Phoebe I-H (BBC Introducing / Radio 1 / 6 Music) on BBC Radio Scotland’s, Introducing in Scotland show on Friday 26th January 2024. Nathan was also invited to record a Live Session for BBC Introducing in Scotland, set to air on 16th February 2024.
Concrete Countryside was brought to life in Ayrshire College’s Studio G54 where Nathan teamed up alongside Sun Turtle Records Label Manager and Producer Murray Baxter (Mechanical Smile, Twin Heart, DreamKids) and Recording and Mixing Engineer David McAulay (Mogwai, King Creosote, Strike The Colours, Afterlands), creating an indie-pop anthem that provokes endless singalongs.
Nathan, from the small town of Stevenston (North Ayrshire), now residing in nearby Saltcoats is an artist proud of his Ayrshire roots and draws influence from local heroes Biffy Clyro, Fatherson and Colin Hay (Men At Work), as well as artists from further afield such as Frightened Rabbit, Daughter and David Gray, all of whom inspire Nathan’s style of song-writing that encapsulates a scenic and poignant descriptive form of storytelling, sincere, humble and embodied with emotion.
Concrete Countryside displays this form of storytelling and reflectiveness as lyrically Nathan narrates his experience as a young apprentice Floor Layer, commuting through the unfamiliar early morning streets of Glasgow enjoying his first steps into adulthood as a working young man, while also being exposed to the unfortunate stereotype toxicity that surrounded the workplace leaving Nathan feeling isolated and longing for something more.
Nathan is set to have an active 2024 with both full band and solo performances and has a special Ayrshire headline show booked in Ayr’s Venue 38 on Saturday 30th March 2024.
